Ft. Pierce to Fernandina Beach, FL

Total today:

217 nm   12 hr 42 min

Avg speed 17.1     195 gallons of fuel

Off the dock around 0515

Very light chop once out of the pass.  Another beautiful full running day, clear skies, light following breeze.

Had to high-tail for a while... about 2200 RPMs, 20-22 knots, oh and a 24 gph fuel rate vs. the normal 16 gph.  We just happened to be in the NASA security zone on the day of a shuttle launch.   So, we booked it so that we wouldn't get shot down like Somali pirates.

1113 N28 58.376  W80 44.710 approaching New Smyrna

Very uneventful run until we got to the marina.

Docked up around 1830 at the Fernandina Harbor Marina.  Just settling it to our post-run routine, you know, having some tea and crumpets while listening to one of my Vivaldi CD's, and like that, when "BOOM"!!!  A boat about 100 yards away blew up.  Yep, huge explosions, big flames, billowing smoke...  Seems that it was an electrical fire.  No one but the family dog was onboard.  Quite a scene, and quite sobering watching the complete devastation that occurred in just a matter of minutes.

Had dinner, and per usual, early to bed for an early tomorrow morning.
